Monaco, the world’s second smallest county is home to the Longines Monte Carlo Jumping International. Now in it’s 10 year, this three-day event of world-class show jumping, is set alongside the world-famous harbour, with the palace towering over above.
1. Challenging course
Riders face technically challenging courses in one of the smallest arenas on the Tour. It’s also a tight squeeze getting the horses on the site and Vet checks have to be done in France before the horses are moved into Monaco.
2. Watch out for royalty
The royal family of Monaco are well know horse riders and always try to attend the event. Charlotte Casiraghi, a member of the royal family has also competed at the show.
3. Prince Albert II of Monaco Grand Prix
The main event of the Longines Global Champions Tour weekend is the Prince Albert II of Monaco Grand Prix. Named after the current monarch of Monaco.
4. Prize money
The winner of Prince Albert II of Monaco Grand Prix event takes home €100,000 in prize money.
5. Challenging obstacle course
The obstacle course is specially built by master builder Luc Musette and is very challenging, not only due to the arena’s small size but to the type of fences he creates.
6. Plenty of shops!
Next to the warm-up arena stand the shops in the Village of exhibitors. You’ll be able to buy the latest horse tack, clothing, merchandise, and more.
7. Broadcast all over Europe
In addition to live streaming the event, the whole three-day show is watched all over Europe on Eurosport.
8. Pro-Am Cup
A competition which welcomes different teams consisted of professional riders together with amateur riders, ending in beauty with a party on the Friday evening.
9. Masoni Pony Cup
10 ponies and riders battle it out for the spoils. This event offers a unique chance for ‘riders of tomorrow’ to be part of a GCT event alongside the best riders in the world. The final winner takes home the Masoni Cup of Monaco.
10. Looking out for VIPs
As Monaco is known for being the home of many celebrities, it’s likely some will be attending the jumping. In previous years Bruce Springsteen, Princess Beatrice of York, Queen Noor of Jordan, Bill Gates and more have all be spotted.
