Lara Griffiths comes from a ‘horsey’ background. Her father previously serving in the Kings Troop. Mother, Caroline, rode and has acted as chef d’équipe for Britain’s under-21 teams. Caroline has also been show secretary for a number of high profile events and is current British Equestrian Federation World Class co-ordinator for dressage.


After joining her local Pony Club, Vale of Aylesbury, she began to concentrate on dressage with her pony Mr Sparrow. She later joined the British Young Riders Dressage Scheme. Lara competed at Junior and Young Rider level for Great Britain, whilst working alongside Emile Faurie.


In 2010, after completing a degree in equine science, she went to ride for the Bechtolsheimer’s. During her time there she was given the opportunity to ride Rufus, who she has been working with now for the past five years. And also Andretti H, with whom she was the British Dressage reserve National Champion with in 2012.


Mentored by 2012 Olympian Laura Tomlinson, Lara and Rufus have been enjoying some great results at Grand Prix on the international circuit.


Lara contested her first international grand prix at Hickstead in July 2013 with Andretti and went on to finish third to Carl Hester in the grand prix freestyle at the National Dressage Championships in September.

Competed for Team GB in Rio 2016 in Equestrian Dressage Individual.


She says, the Most influential person in her career is mentor Laura Tomlinson.
