To Hack or Hacking, describes the act of riding a horse for light exercise. Usually it involves horse riding away from the premises through the bridlepaths, woodland and countryside. This is different from training or schooling, which is riding around a ménage.
The verb “to hack” or “hacking” is more commonly associated with English riding rather than in North America, where the term used is trail riding.
Most UK riding schools organize group hacks. This is where a small number of riders, either on their own horses or on rented animals, go for a short, relatively easy ride. These rides are usually geared for inexperienced riders.
